Chemical
Peel is
a technique
used to improve
the skin's
appearance
by safely
and painlessly
removing the damaged
outer layer.
A chemical
solution
is applied
to the skin
for 1 to
2 minutes.
This causes
the skin
to slightly
peel 2 to
3 days later.
Chemical Peels improve the look of the skin, and the skin will feel silky smooth. The new regenerated skin is smoother, fresher looking, and has a "glow". The whole procedure takes 5 to 10 minutes. They are performed on the face, neck, or hands. They treat fine lines, wrinkles, mild scarring, acne, pigmented lesions (age spots, freckles, and dark patches due to pregnancy or birth control pills).
All skin types respond to chemical peels. Fair-skinned and light-haired patients may respond better. Chemical Peels proactively diminish pre-cancerous lesions from the sun. Dermatologists actually recommend it!
There are no side effects, except for mild redness after the procedure. The skin is thoroughly cleansed with an agent that removes excess oils, and the eyes and hair are protected. A chemical solution, trichloroacetic acid, is then applied to small areas on the skin. Most patients experience a warm to hot, tingling sensation but it is not painful.
Depending on the desired look, a mild or moderate peel may be done. You may leave looking like you were in the sun, but your face will not be red, and you may immediately return to work. Your facial skin will peel in 2 to 3 days. It is recommended that you avoid the sun for 7 days after the treatment. We recommend that you have your peel done on a Thursday, so you will peel during the weekend. You can also have a series of 3 treatments, 4 weeks apart, to achieve a desired look.
One chemical peel is the equivalent of 10 microdermabrasion treatments, but chemical peels are faster, less expensive, and more effective. Chemical Peels have been safely and successfully used for decades, by dermatologists and plastic surgeons all over the world.
Actors and actresses have known this secret for years!
